The Heart of the City Capital Campaign represents a $15 Million redevelopment of the Downtown YMCA-YWCA to serve as a true community hub with expanded child care, youth programming, newcomer services and mental health services, as well as the construction of community classrooms, improved accessibility and an indoor splash pad.

“The downtown community needs the Downtown Y and we know this is a project Winnipeggers will want to support,” said Kristie Pearson, who is Co-Chairing the Campaign with longtime friend and fellow Y-enthusiast, Ace Burpee.

“There are so many great things in the works for Downtown Winnipeg and the Y will be at the heart of everything as it always has been,” said Burpee.

Plans for the redevelopment project are currently being finalized, with construction slated to begin in 2025 and an anticipated completion in 2027 depending on how quickly funding is secured from the public and various levels of government.
